Hamilton Review

Honestly, if I said everything I liked about this show, I’d probably run out of space. This show was absolutely phenomenal. I’ve always heard great things about Hamilton, but I never actually got the chance to see it for myself. However, I saw it for the first time recently, and I finally see what all the hype was about. If I have this reaction after seeing it on a screen, I can just imagine the experience of seeing it live on stage. Also, if Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote this whole play himself, the dude is a genius. The true story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton was told in a way so full of fun and energetic creativity that I was never bored for the entire three hour runtime. Definitely the best history class I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting through. The pacing was excellent and it never felt slow. Every single performance, character, and historical figure was memorable, well written, and filled with personality. Even the characters I didn’t care too much for were performed in such a way that I couldn’t dislike them. The set and costume design were incredible and impeccably detailed in terms of how the story was told and how the scenes transitioned. The musical aspect was not only a quality of he show, it was the show. The soundtrack was fantastic. Every single line of dialogue spoken was in song. The music within the show and the story itself was so dynamic with fantastic choreography and switched between R&B, jazz, rap, and other genres so seamlessly. I even wanted to stand up and applaud at some points. The story even had a large amount of emotional resonance with its central theme of legacy and a villain with sound motivations. As a matter of fact, the “villain” was my favorite character in the show. Overall, thanks to Hamilton’s pacing, writing, and storytelling, I can’t recommend this show enough, even of musicals aren’t your forte. Score: 10/10
