I will say that despite the accolades that the first Dune film received, and as someone who isn’t as familiar with the source material of Frank Herbert’s genre defining sci-fi epic, the incredible performances, visuals, direction, and world building of Denis Villeneuve’s first film weren’t enough to completely sell me because of the film’s slower pacing. The second film still had some of those issues for me, however, with a better paced and riveting story that’s easier to follow thanks to already established characters and concepts, even more cinema worthy set pieces than the last film, and an ending that actually has me looking forward to the third installment, the good qualities of the first film were only bolstered by this significant improvement. Score: 8/10
