As a huge Ghostbusters fan, and as someone who enjoyed the previous Ghostbusters: Afterlife film, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was easily one of my most anticipated films of the year. I mean, how could you go wrong with two generations of modern and classic Ghostbusters battling a new villain in the form of an ancient ice god? Of course, it was great to see the classic Ghostbusters in action once again, this time in an original story reminiscent of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. The newer cast members that we met in the previous film were enjoyable to watch as well in terms of their performances and their familial chemistry with each other, as well as the other Ghostbusters. However, despite the undeniable novelty of the Ghostbusters franchise and the film’s many attempts at nostalgia, a plethora of conflicting subplots and a crowded narrative that didn’t do much service to the cool new villain (pun intended) or many of the film’s characters held this movie back in some ways. There were a lot of interesting concepts introduced in this movie that could’ve really expanded the Ghostbusters universe in unique ways had they been fleshed out more. Score: 6/10
