This holiday action adventure film stars Dwayne Johnson as the bodyguard of Santa Claus. When Saint Nick himself is kidnapped by a powerful witch, the Rock’s character must form an unlikely alliance with a skilled thief played by Chris Evans to get him back. For starters, you can tell that everyone involved with this film was having a blast judging from the performances of the cast. Besides Evans and the Rock being the standouts, J.K. Simmons made for a great Santa Claus. This film also introduced some interesting concepts as well, including a unique take on the North Pole, a secret agency run by Lucy Liu’s character that specializes in rounding up mythological creatures, and different aspects of holiday mythology being used in fun ways; from evil snowmen to Santa’s evil counterpart, Krampus. The film’s story was quite predictable, featuring the action set pieces, dialogue, and family-centered themes that you’d find in most holiday or adventure films. However, I will say that the movie didn’t fail to entertain, and I still recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, action-themed holiday film. Score: 6/10
