What a great way to start 2025! Produced by Insecure creator, Issa Rae, One of Them Days is a comedy that did more than just entertain with its hilarious hijinks, the performances of its powerhouse cast, and the infectious chemistry between Keke Palmer and SZA. (Beyond impressive that this is SZA’s first movie, by the way.) It also singlehandedly replenished the buddy comedy genre for me; a genre that can be very hit or miss depending on the cast and crew. Sure, the plot heavily borrows from other classics within the genre such as Friday (racing against the clock to meet a money-related deadline), but the film is so well-paced and persistently entertaining with its comedic story that ever so subtly celebrates the culture of Los Angeles, the borrowed story beats are hardly noticeable. Score: 8/10
