I finally got around to watching and finishing Pixar’s first ever animated series, Win or Lose, and I don’t think I can recommend it enough! The series follows the escapades of a co-ed softball team on and off the field. Pixar is pretty well known for their strides in animation and their emotionally resonant storytelling, and even though this was executed in the format of a series rather than a film, Win or Lose was no exception. The series format actually served this story in ways a feature length film probably wouldn’t be able to, using each episode to focus on the each member of this underdog softball team. The animation is arguably the most unique and expressive I’ve seen in a Pixar project. This coupled with the series’ pleasantly surprising use of witty dialogue and surrealist comedy to convey its impactful coming-of-age themes pulled at the heartstrings and had me rooting for each member of this team by the end in classic Pixar fashion. Although a second season of this series is unlikely, it would more than welcome. Score: 8/10
