As someone who is a huge fan of the John Wick films, Ballerina was easily one of my most anticipated films of the year. One of the best aspects of the John Wick franchise as it progressed was not only the incredible action sequences, but also the world building. The lore behind this world of assassins expands with every installment, with Ballerina being no exception. Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3, this film follows the character of Eve, played by Ana de Armas, as she embarks on a globetrotting quest to seek revenge against the assassin’s guild that killed her father. Definitely not the type of story we haven’t seen before, but thanks to the performances, the world building introducing new characters and concepts never before seen in the John Wick franchise, and the mind-blowing fight choreography this franchise is known for that seemed more creative and brutal than ever this time around, any narrative clichés can easily be looked over. Also, more spinoff stories that deviate from the John Wick saga and further expand this world’s lore would be more then appreciated. Score: 8/10
