How to Train Your Dragon (2025) Movie Review

The original How to Train Your Dragon animated film that released in 2010 is, to this day, a modern classic in my eyes that still remains as arguably DreamWorks’ best movie. It boasted incredible animation, thrilling action, and a heartfelt story of the persevering friendship between a young viking boy and a dragon in a world where vikings actively hunted the latter. Fast forward to 2025 and we see DreamWorks attempt the first major release of a live-action remake from a media company besides Disney. Overall, the film was pretty solid. Unlike a lot of live-action remakes from Disney, it doesn’t attempt to change the already established narrative in any way. It is pretty much a shot for shot remake of the original film, with minor differences here and there that are near impossible to notice. However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Thanks to the visual effects, the epic soundtrack making a return from the original film, and the earnest performances of the cast embodying these originally animated characters, this particular remake came across as a love letter to the source material rather than a cash grab. Score: 8/10
