Based on the popular horror video game franchise of the same name, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 continues the antics of our protagonists coming face-to-face with the haunted animatronics of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, having some new threats to face this time around. If you’re familiar with the game series or even the first film, you pretty much know exactly what to expect here. Granted, I can definitely see this film being a treat for fans of the franchise, as just like the first film, this installment was chock full of different Easter eggs and references for fans to catch. Also, I will give credit where credit is due. The plot remains quite faithful to the source material, having a story that follows the already established Five Nights at Freddy’s lore pretty closely, and some of the scares involving the film’s newer antagonists, such as the Marionette, were relatively effective thanks to the use of some practical effects. However, between the flat dialogue, the oddly executed story beats, and the blatant sequel setups, I don’t know if I can see casual viewers who aren’t already familiar with this franchise enjoy this for what it is. Score: 5/10
