Similar to most animated sagas that premiered in the early to mid-2000s, Despicable Me is one that I remember having core memories of tracking all the way back to elementary school. This is mostly thanks to Gru, his family dynamic with his three adopted daughters, and of course those inescapable Minions. The fourth installment of this franchise was just as delightfully silly as I thought it would be, entertaining the audience with the hijinks that this franchise is known for. Of course, a fourth film in this franchise didn’t necessarily have a reason to be made, nor was its plot of Gru’s family going into hiding to escape a new villain especially riveting, but this franchise’s signature animation and wacky action set pieces made sure I got some entertainment out of it. Also, while it wasn’t on the level of the first two films, it was a significant improvement over the franchise’s third installment, which was a pleasant surprise. Score: 6/10
