For my first gaming piece, I wanted to write about a game that came out not too long ago and one that I’ve been playing a lot of recently. Now, whether it is gamers’ distrust in Ubisoft as a game developer or the gameplay/story concepts not really impressing avid gamers or Star Wars fans alike, this game was buried in controversy from its conception. However, after playing a few hours of the game myself, I must say that the experience hasn’t been all too bad. Other than some minor issues I’ve encountered here and there, such as slow story pacing, overreliance on stealth, and regularly unclear mission structure that had me get lost within levels more times than I’d like to admit, I’ve been enjoying other aspects of the game as well that relatively outweigh the bad. These include the story of helping our protagonist, Kay Vess, make a name for herself within the galaxy’s criminal underworld, taking on certain missions that will affect how different criminal syndicates see you. I’ve also been enjoying the open world aspect of the game. While the world you get to explore is definitely not as polished or expansive as a game like Legend of Zelda, it’s still pretty fun to hop on your ship or speeder and explore both new and familiar locations within the Star Wars galaxy, especially as a fan myself. The game definitely has its moments, but I do recommend keeping an open mind before going into it. Like I mentioned, don’t expect Grand Theft Auto levels of open world immersion, but it is still a pretty good time.
