Following the events of Avengers: Endgame and Falcon and the Winter Soldier with which the hero Falcon comes to terms with his new role as Captain America, Sam Wilson is finally given his own film in the Captain America mantle! On paper, this film has everything a solid MCU film should. There’s high-flying action showcasing Sam’s new abilities as Cap, as well as Joaquin Torres as the new Falcon, in quite entertaining fashion (The Red Hulk fight was awesome!), some solid performances from Anthony Mackie & Harrison Ford respectively, and there’s plenty of references to previous Marvel projects that aid in helping the MCU feel more connected than it has in a while (The film’s main villain is surprisingly a returning character from Phase One of the MCU). However, the film’s shorter runtime compared to other Captain America films didn’t do it any favors, as any plot point or character progression that could’ve been considered interesting is glossed over far too quickly. It sort of made the film feel more like a Disney+ special rather than a theatrical release, despite the film’s entertaining moments. Score: 6/10
great review.
