If Disney ever decides to make a Goofy Movie remake, I think Tone Stith might have to be who they cast as Powerline. This project had Tevin Campbell vibes written all over it. Now, I had to do a review for this album as soon as I finished it. This album is so good, it deserves far more attention than it’s getting. For those who aren’t familiar, Tone Stith is an R&B singer who burst onto the scene with projects such as Still FWM and P.O.V, both fantastic EPs by the way. (P.O.V doesn’t have a single skip.) However, Stith decided to do something different for his debut album, The Edge. Whereas the previously mentioned EPs utilized more modern production, The Edge boasts a production style reminiscent of the 80s and 90s, making the album sound nostalgic despite its 2026 release date. The album is not only produced by Stith’s usual producer, Kenneth Paige, but it was also co-produced and co-written by Christopher “Brody” Brown who is no stranger to the nostalgic sound. (“Brody” Brown co-wrote and co-produced almost every track on Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic album.) The album itself covers a plethora of different subject matters. From the braggadocios nature of the album’s lead single, Fly, to singing about the ebbs and flows of love and infatuation on tracks like Pageant Stage, Back Around, Can You Feel It Too, and Better Days. Stith even sings about shutting out the noise of naysayers with tracks like Shut Up and I Quit. The album’s groovy 90s sound remains consistent throughout the project, incorporating elements of funk and soft rock on each track to create a cinematic old school vibe that you will undoubtedly get lost in (Hence the Goofy Movie proposal). This is by far one of the most uniquely sounding albums released this year, and one of the best aspects of the project is its runtime. I’ve mentioned in other album reviews that the best albums I’ve ever heard are on the shorter side, and with this album only having ten songs and being thirty minutes long, this was no exception. Please give this amazing album a listen if you haven’t already. Between this and the latest self-titled album from Kehlani, the 90s R&B sound is in safe hands.
